Fall Fashion

Fall is by far my favourite season to express my style and try new outfits. The colder weather provides me with the opportunity to layer and accessorize staple pieces in my wardrobe.  The following is one of my go-to fall outfits that is perfect for running to class, Christmas shopping and so much more.

Sweater: Purchased at Forever 21, this sweater is super soft and comfy, the color goes with almost everything I own and can be dressed up or down.

Leggings: Although any pair of black leggings work, this pair purchased from Dynamite has leather detailing down the side, giving the look more detail and edge.

Sunglasses: This pair of sunglasses from GlassesShop are perfect for any fall day. With the time change, I find myself driving to and from my classes right as the sun rises and sets making it hard to see the road, making these glasses a much needed accessory. If you would like your own pair, GlassesShop is offering 50% off of eyeglasses and sunglasses with free lenses (sale frames excluded), just use the coupon code GSHOT50 when checking out. http://www.glassesshop.com/

Scarf: Also purchased at Forever 21, this scarf is perfect for any fall outfit and can keep you warm on those cold, brisk fall days.

Vest: This black, light weight, zip-up vest is from Old Navy. It is perfect to throw over any sweater and add layers to your outfit.

Boots: Purchased at Target, these black and brown riding boots add comfort and style to any outfit.

Fall Fashion: Apple Picking

I love fall and all of its fashion opportunities. Its cold enough for a sweater, light jacket or vest, but not cold enough where I need winter boots, hats or mittens!

The following is an outfit I wore apple picking, a perfect fall day (minus the fact that it started snowing as we were about to leave!)

Jacket: I picked up this jacket at Old Navy. It has a removable liner so it if perfect for fall, winter and spring! I absolutely love the color as it goes with everything and it super easy to dress up or down!

Scarf: I purchased this scarf while in Ireland over the summer at a store called Penneys, and it was probably my favourite purchase of the entire trip! I am in love with the colors and it is cozy and warm, perfect for those cold fall days!

Boots: The boots are just your standard pair of brown riding boots, I picked mine up at Aldo! I swear by these boots, they are stylish, comfy and perfect for shopping, school and work!

Baked Sausage Penne

One day while trying to come up with a meal to make for dinner, I discovered this dish while throwing what I had left in the fridge into a casserole. With only 5 ingredients this recipe has become a staple meal in my home and one that everyone seems to enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • Penne Noodles
  • Your choice of sausage
  • Tomato Pasta Sauce
  • Grated Cheddar Cheese
  • Parmesan Cheese

Instructions:
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. After your penne noodles are boiled and sausage is baked to your liking, combine HALF of the  noodles, chopped up sausage and pasta sauce into casserole dish.
  3. Mix ingredients until all noodles are covered with sauce and sausage is distributed evenly.
  4. Layer the top with parmesan and cheddar cheese.
  5. Pour the rest of the ingredients into the dish and repeat the processes.
  6. Make sure the final layer of cheese is thick and covers the top of the dish
  7. Bake at 400 degrees until cheese is melted to your liking.

Add Caesar salad and garlic bread to your plate and enjoy!

Summer 2015

I can honestly say that this summer has been the best one yet. Summer 2015 has been filled with memories, experiences and adventures that I will NEVER forget.

My summer started with my family and I heading to beautiful Prince Edward Island to see my brother graduate from college. This moment was special for all of us, as we all knew the hard work and determination Matthew went through to receive his diploma. Very proud big sister moment.

In July I traveled to Maine, New Hampshire and Boston with my cousins (who I consider my sisters) and the trip was a true bonding experience. We saw places of the world we have never been, tried new foods, and literally shopped until we dropped. We have memories that will stay with us forever and resurface every family function and gathering until we die. Alison and Haley, I know you will see this so I would just like to thank you for an amazing trip and who knows, maybe summer 2016 we will conquer new provinces or states!

I had barley finished unpacking from my trip to the States when I was already off on my next adventure. IRELAND for 10 days. A few months ago, one of my good friends moved to Dublin and because I had never been to Europe I decided to travel across the Atlantic Ocean and pay her a visit. Although the trip was filled with delays, missed flights and overall horrible flying experiences, I am forever grateful for Nikki and Tyler and their hospitality.  Ireland was beyond beautiful. Whether I was walking the streets of Dublin or visiting one of the natural wonders of the world (such as the Cliffs of Moher or Giants Causeway), I felt welcomed, at home and truly independent.

After getting over my jet lag and not being home even a week, I was off to Yarmouth, a small town in Nova Scotia to help them open up their new Winners store (TJ Maxx for my American readers). I was able to go with my best friend Courtney and it was one of the best weekends of my summer. I absolutely love Yarmouth as I have a cottage not far and have been going their for the past 21 summers. It always feels like home, the people are beyond friendly, I am able to get out of the big city and I was able to see Courtney's family who I adore and love spending time with.

After being home for only a few days and having time off of work because I put in extra hours when traveling to open the new store, I decided to travel back down to Yarmouth with my cousin Haley and spend some time at my cottage. With no cell reception, TV, or wifi, we are forced outside to truly enjoy nature and do some of our favorite summer past times, four-wheeling, kayaking, swimming and fishing!

This brings me up to now, where I only have a few days left of summer as I start back at University on September 9th. Summer 2015 you have blown all expectations of what a great summer should be and I know next summer will be almost impossible to beat! I have grown so much and I would like to thank you for all of my opportunities, memories and the best four months of my life.

Leave a comment letting me know what you did this summer!

10 Travel Hacks

It's no secret that traveling can be stressful and overwhelming. With these few simple tips, tricks, and hacks hopefully your adventure will go a little more smoothly!

  1. Wear a night moisturizer on long flights, it is extra hydrating and will help your skin in the process.
  2. Infinity scarves are a must have. If you are changing climates or unsure of the temperature of your plane throw on an infinity scarf, they are great for when you are cold and can even be used to block sunlight while taking a nap or needing some shut eye.
  3. Store chargers and power cords in an old sunglass case. You will know exactly where they are while not cluttering your purse or carry-on.
  4. Use a pill container to store and sort your jewelry such as rings, chains and earrings.
  5. Wear your heaviest shoes and coat on the plane, not only will this save room in your luggage but your coat can double as a comfy pillow.
  6. Instead of bringing a blush, brightener or lipstick try a tint such as Benefits 'Benetint' that works as both a lip and cheek stain.
  7. Make sure to pack a spare outfit in your carry on, no one ever thinks their luggage will be lost but it happens. Its better to be safe than sorry.
  8. Wear layers during your flight. Temperature can change in the blink of an eye whether that be outside, in the airports or on your flight. Traveling can be stressful enough, no need to add uncomfortable to the list.
  9. Roll your clothing if you have the opportunity, you would be surprised how much more you will be able to fit or in some cases bring back home with you.
  10. Be prepared for worst case scenarios. I know it is scary to think about but it will be ten times scarier if you had nothing planned in advance.
I would love to know what tips you have for traveling as I plan on doing a lot of it this summer! Leave a comment letting me know!

What I Know For Sure

Recently I have been pushing myself to take the time to reflect, write down and share with you all lessons these past 21 years have taught me.

  1. Cherish the ones you love, they can be gone in the blink of an eye.
  2. Paradise is not a place, its a state of mind.
  3. Love is the greatest gift you can give.
  4. Don't judge people, everyone has their own stories and struggles.
  5. Be honest with yourself and with others.
  6. Don't talk bad about someone, it only reflects on the person you are.
  7. Respect is not given, it is earned.
  8. Do what makes you happy, not what society or your peers want you to do.
  9. Always be kind, everyone is facing their own battles.
  10. Trust takes a long time to build and can be broken in seconds.
  11. Always go with yourself, never against yourself.
  12. Free yourself from negative people.
  13. Words can hurt just as much as actions.
  14. Give compliments often, it can transform someone's day.
  15. Your heart is your best compass.
  16. Relationships are meant to help you, not hurt you.
  17. Lies only exist if we believe them.
  18. Jealousy and insecurity are ugly and will eat up your own beauty.
  19. Always smile, it can open many opportunities.
  20. Always tell the ones you love that you love them.
  21. Have confidence in yourself.

I encourage you all to take a moment and reflect on your own life lessons and share this with your friends, family, co-workers or blog audience. You never know who needs to hear one of these lessons to help get them through their day.

Guest Post: Within Jays Life

One thing I love about blogging is the opportunity to make friends and interact with others from around the world. My guest today lives not only in the same country as me but the same city as well! Blogging has brought us together and I can't wait for you to learn more about her and her blog! Enjoy!

1. Jaylynn, tell us about yourself ...

Hi, I'm Jaylynn, or Jay as most call me. I'm a teen beauty blogger from Canada balancing my time between school, blogging, spending time with friends and family and everything in between.

2. What is the meaning behind your blog name?

My blog name is Within Jays Life. Every since I was little everyone would call me Jay so I thought I would tie that in somehow, and I thought "Jays Life" though that name was already taken so I just added in Within to the beginning. (Though to tell you the truth I really don't like my blog name).

3. Why did you start blogging?

I have been watching YouTube for probably about 3 years now and ever since I discovered beauty and makeup vloggers I've been obsessed with makeup. Then one day one of my best friends showed me how she had started a blog and I jumped at the chance to make one myself, and from then on my life has been consumed of reading blogs, writing and growing my blog and watching YouTube videos.

4. What is your all time favourite beauty product?

My all time favorite beauty product would have to be the Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara. If I put anything on before I go out it would have to be mascara. This mascara is amazing. It's great for lengthening and adding volume to the lashes. And the packaging is so cute!!

5. If you could only use one beauty product for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

If I could only use on product for the rest of my life it would be my Vaseline Cocoa Butter Lip Balm. This is my all time holy grail lip balm. I would choose this because I have such dry skin and lips and especially with my lips they're always dry and when they are it really irritates me, and this helps to keep my lips nice and smooth.

6. What is one goal you hope to accomplish with your blog in 2015?

One goal for my blog that I hope to accomplish in 2015 is to grow my readership and to change my blog layout.

One personal goal I have for 2015 is to volunteer more. I already do volunteer though I would like to volunteer more at places like Soup Kitchens etc....

Thank you so much Sarah for having me on your blog!!!!

After learning more about Jay and her blog please don't forget to check it out and give her a follow, you wont regret it!

(If you are interested in becoming a guest blogger please feel free to leave me a comment or send me an email.)
